Icon?

Did you ever want to be Jesus? I know, you don’t fancy getting slammed around, spat up, stabbed, and stuck on a cross, bearing the sins of the world. But play along with me, and say, “Yes, I want to be Jesus.”

Well, thanks. And here’s your chance. You can. At least roleplay as Jesus Christ, performing miracles, fighting Satan, dying horrifically on the cross and then somehow getting resurrected and ascending to heaven.

And if you were still interested, I’d recommend just the thing for you: a video game—I Am Jesus Christ!

Created by Polish game developer SimulaM, this historical Jesus simulation game will let you set foot into the sandals of the Son of God himself, the Second Person of the Trinity, fully Man and fully God. You can embark on a journey from the birth of Jesus, his life and various miracles, all the way until his crucifixion and ultimately his resurrection, covering vistas ranging from mountaintops to deserts to seas and, of course, to Jerusalem, the city.

Here’s what they claim you can also do:

Perform amazing miracles, interact with a cast of biblical figures and travel around the Holy Land from Jerusalem to the Galilee.”

You can walk on water, make a stormy sky dissipate, turn water into wine, die, be resurrected, etc. And of course, engage in an over-the-top boss battle against Satan, like Mr. H. Potter vs. Voldemort.

Said a reporter:

However, performing miracles isn’t easy. Players will need to keep an eye on their ’Holy Spirit’ meter, which depletes with each miracle—though of course it can be recharged.”

It does have some weird interpretations in it (all for the fun of the game, I suppose). For one thing, Jesus Christ shrinks himself to enter a child’s body to cure diseases. Not really orthodox Christian doctrine. But then, each miracle is accompanied by a biblical verse from the New Testament describing it. That’s nice!

Anyhow, it’s a game 2,000 years in the making, and you can get it in the second quarter of 2023.

Social media commenters reacted with delight. Said one:

Hopefully no one spoils the ending.”

About that ending, one wisecrack remarked:

As far as the ending goes, I’m just gonna touch wood, cross my fingers and hope that they nail it.”

Noted another:

When Jesus said he would return, never thought it would be in the form of a video game.”

I liked this the best—a question asked by one user:

Will this have character customization?? We are all made in his image right??”

Well, yes and no.

We were made in the image of God.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness ….
God created man in His own image,
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:26–27

But the fall and the entry of sin into the human race kinda defaced that image, without effacing it.

God’s goal is to restore that image in us.

For those whom He foreknew,
He also predestined to become conformed
to the image of His Son.
Romans 8:29

He saved us in Jesus Christ. And now he enables us through the Holy Spirit (dwelling in believers, and by the agency of the inspired writings of that same Spirit) to become “conformed to the image [Greek: eikōn] of His Son,” Jesus Christ. (What I call a “christiconic interpretation” of Scripture.)

That is the divinely recommended way of becoming like Jesus Christ. Not through I Am Jesus Christ.
